Jollibee in Barong: The Start of Our Funko Collection

In celebration of the 121st Philippine Independence Day last June 12, Jollibee released its very own special edition barong-clad Funko Pop.

It sure beats the regular toys that come with Jolly Kiddie Meals!

We went out to buy a bucket of Chicken Joy, and Daddy ended up with his very first Funko collectible. For a limited time, Jollibee offered the promotion that allows you to get the Funko figure and 6-piece chicken bucket for Php 950.

According to news reports, June 11, the eve of Independence Day, the Special Edition figurine was launched in selected Jollibee branches.

Hundreds of Funko fanatics like our friends Kathleen (@teacherkitchie) and David (@davidtuazon) spent the late night hours up to the break of dawn to be among the lucky first owners.

They even got a chance to snap some photos with the one and only Jollibee! For added flair, several customers attended the launch wearing their own barongs.

In the spirit of being Pinoy and Proud, the cute Funko Pop figure dons the national costume, the Barong Tagalog, with his signature yellow bee shoes.

💡 Did You Know? This is actually the 2nd Jollibee Funko that was created for the well-loved fast food chain. It was in July 2018 when the 40th Anniversary Edition was released, much to the delight of Filipino fans. Below is a snapshot of the figurine. (Sadly, we don’t own one yet.)

What’s next in our collection? For Daddy and the kids, the Funko hunt is just beginning.
